Exercise 1
In this exercise I had to draw a least 6 objects. I choose to arrange the image like they were spilling out of a shopping bag. This was the first still life drawing I had done in a while, which I think shows in the drawing. I really enjoyed it but I do not think the mark were very expressive.
Exercise 2
This was my first attempt at this exercise of blocking in the tone. I wasn't happy with how it came out so I did another 2 drawings which I was happier with.
Exercise 3
Using a simple shape I used different marks to draw the object.
Research Point
I looked at the artist Odilon Redon and his work. I found a website that explained how he achieved his tonal quality in his work by covering his page with charcoal and then removing it by wiping, stamping, scratching and erasing the charcoal. Using this technique it makes the parts of the image that catches the light seem more vibrate and creates atmosphere. I gave this technique a go.
I really enjoyed this way of working and I feel that it showed in this drawing.
Exercise 4
Exercise 4 was about capturing the shadows and reflective light.
I do not think this is very good drawing but I did capture some of the reflective quality of the stainless steel.
